What is an Electric Scooter?
As e-scooter or electric scooter experts, we aim to give you the best advice on which, what, and why you should buy an electric scooter. So let's start with the basics. What is an electric scooter?
A two-wheeled motorised scooter. Simply put. A battery gives power to a motor, and the motor drives the wheels. They have the usual fair of handlebars for steering, brakes for stopping, and sometimes lights for seeing.
Ok, so that's a little too basic. Electric scooter brakes can range from a simple foot-operated manual rear brake to sophisticated hydraulic brakes. Some e-scooters have suspension for a smoother ride and bright LED lights for nighttime expeditions. A lot can be connected to a dedicated app for your phone, like the Xiaomi and AOVO Pro electric scooters. Where you can control more of the e-scooters functions. But most of all, electric scooters are a fun and eco-friendly way to get from A to B.
Electric scooters are eco-friendly and green. Making switching to one as a daily ride over your car a real improvement to a more sustainable planet.
Are Electric Scooters Illegal in the UK?
At the time when this article is published, private electric scooters are not allowed on public roads in the UK. The only e-scooters allowed are the ones available to hire from e-scooter companies Voi or Lime. Where you pay per mile.
However, with the new transport bill introduced by the Government in the 2022 Queen's speech. Those who own private electric scooters will be allowed to legally ride them on public roads.
A Government spokeswoman quoted from the inews said "Safety will always be our top priority and our trials are helping us to better understand the benefits of properly regulated, safety-tested e-scooters and their impact on public space."
“While riding a privately owned e-scooter on public land is currently illegal, we are considering how best to design future regulations and our Transport Bill will help us to take the steps we need to make e-scooters safer and support innovation."

Hitway Electric Scooter with Seat
The Hitway electric scooter has one noticeable difference from the rest of the scooters in this article. It arrives with a seat for the laziest of scooter rides. Not only a seat but a seat with suspension. This is combined with front and rear scooter suspension for the ultimate in scooter ride comfort. Bumps and vibrations will be a thing of the past.
It has an impressive top speed of 45 Km/h and a reasonable range of up to 40 Km. And you can ride up gradients of up to 30 degrees. so if you live in a hilly area, the Hitway is for you.
Like the AOVO Pro, it also has 10" tyres. Not honeycomb, but solid. So again, no punctures. Solid tyres don't offer as much comfort riding as pneumatic but the suspension throughout makes the issue on the Hitway e-scooter redundant.
Along with lights and a clear LCD display, the Hitway electric scooter with Seat is the real Rolls Royce of the e-scooter world.
Our Take
For the rider that loves the finer things in life, the Hitway is the one to get. It offers a real smooth and comfortable ride. Plus it has a high carry weight of 200 Kg. This means when private e-scooters finally do become legal on the UK roads, the Hitway will be the perfect way to commute to the office or ride to the gym.
Decent One Max Electric Scooter
Sometimes you just want a solid ride right? That's what the Decent One Max electric scooter offers. A decent brand with a no-frills design.
Landing in a stylish black, the Decent One Max looks cool and plays the perfect part of a solid electric scooter. A top speed of 25 Km/h with 3 speed modes for control and a range of up to 39 Km gives this impressive scooter a fantastic all round riding experience. Charging takes 3 - 6 hours. And one thing that makes the Decent One Max e-scooter extra is the ability to remove the battery for charging. Really handy if you're at work or a cafe and it needs a charge.
Chunky 10" anti-skid pneumatic tyres take out all the vibrations of the road. Delivering a smooth ride. Maybe not as smooth as the Hitway, but definitely smooth.
Our Take
With its no-frills attitude, the Decent One Max is for those of you that can't be bothered with apps or flashy tech. Solid e-scooter construction that'll get you from A to B without the need to worry if your phone is charged.
Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 Electric Scooter
For all the tech-heads out there, we have the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 electric scooter. You might be familiar with Xiaomi as a smartphone creator. But they build e-scooters as well. Popular e-scooters as a matter of fact, the Xiaomi Mi 3 electric scooter is seriously popular. But let's swing back to the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2.
Xiaomi scooters have a very similar look to the AOVO Pro brand, grey with splashes of detailing. Landing with a top speed of 25 Km/h and an excellent range of 45 Km it's ideal as a daily ride.
It has 8.5" size pneumatic puncture-resistant tyres to take the bumps with E-ABS anti-lock brake system at the front wheel and a powerful disc brake at the back. This combo of tyres and brakes makes the Xiaomi easy to control and bring to a stop safely. One feature that Xiaomi has over the others is the KERS system. KERS or kinetic energy recovery makes the energy conversion is more efficient when you brake or release the throttle while driving. This system prolongs the battery life. Handy right?
Our Take
With lights and a multi-functional display plus app capabilities, the Xiaomi is a great scooter for those of you who love up-to-date tech and modern features. A real winner in the scooter world.
